6 Must Have Apps for Your Trip to NYC
NYC can be a lot all at once for most people. Bright lights, confusing train schedules and subway stations (do I go Uptown or Downtown?!?!), New Yorkers with a walking speed of 50 mph and the insane abundance of options of things you can see, do, eat at every corner you turn--a sensory overload is easily an understatement.
While everyone in the world is not as obsessed with NYC as I am, I am certain that New York City is a bucket list destination for most people on earth...I mean come on, what’s not to love?
(*Insert incessant honking of cabs and subways that are always breaking down*)
So in order to make your visit to my favorite place in the world a little less stressful and a lot more seamless, I am listing the 9 apps that I believe are an essential to your New York City experience whether it be your first time or your 283936th time
6 Must Have Apps for Your Trip to NYC
Download these apps:
I have included the download link for both iPhone and Android users
1. Google Maps
I know this may be an obvious one for some people, but you would be surprised at how many people don’t use Google Maps! As a local even I use this! This is one of the easiest ways to help you navigate through the city as it allows you to input your destination and will provide you with all your transport options, what stop to get on, which direction and even which subway exit to exit onto the street from. PLUS: It tracks the traffic in real time--which is incredibly helpful if you want to know how much traffic there is before hopping onto a cab.

2. NYC Subway
This app allows you to find the fastest route from your location to destination, also has the whole NYC MTA Subway map which is helpful to if you are on an older train that does not show the upcoming subway stops inside the train car

3. NYC Ferry
THIS is NYC’s best secret and my secret hehe. If you are in Brooklyn—whether in BK Heights or Williamsburg, you can take a ferry from BK to Midtown + other parts in Manhattan for $2.75 and avoid ALL street traffic. It’s also just super cool and most people (locals included) do not know about this. Plus the views approaching Manhattan are stunning and the ferry has an open top deck!

4. SitOrSquat
One of the biggest struggles about exploring all day in a big city is the inevitable need to use the bathroom, but not knowing where to go. This app is perfect for just that. It helps you find the closest public bathroom and even rates it if it is clean (Sit worthy) or not the cleanest (Squat worthy).

5. Today Tix
This is a must-download app if you’re interested in Broadway theater. The app lets you buy super discounted tickets on last-minute unsold seats. For example, looking at the app as I write this I’m seeing shows for up to 50% off, with sample prices including $48 for Waitress, $59 for Mean Girls, $49 for My Fair Lady, $50 for Chicago, etc.

6. Seated
I recently discovered this app and I already LOVE IT. A foodie's dream! Essentially, you get paid to eat out. Book your next restaurant out and get cashback in gift cards based on where you are eating. So basically, you just eat as you normally would, but get rewarded for it! What a dream right?
